6 free email marketing options

Recently I was reading a few articles about free email marketing software and what I realized was that in almost all of the articles the software really wasn’t free. Maybe it had a free 14 day trial or a 30 day trial but it wasn’t really free.

I don’t know about you but when I am looking for something free I don’t want it for just 30 days.

I want a solution that is actually free.

So, I decided that I would see what free options were actually out there. The good news is that I actually found quite a few free email marketing options.

I signed up for each of the companies just to browse their product and test out how useful they were. Each had its pros and cons but listed below are the top 6 options for beginners.

  • Mailerlite
  • Benchmark
  • Campayn
  • Freshmail
  • Express Pigeon

My Recommendation

Overall, there was one service that stood out for me far and above the others. I would recommend Mailerlite because of the little extras that they offer.

Mailerlite is the best beginners solution that I have been able to find. It offers a way to put your subscribers into autoresponder sequences. It also offers several ways to place opt-ins on your website: pop-up boxes, forms, buttons, and even landing pages.

They offer beautiful, drag and drop newsletters that can be sent out via multiple campaigns. You can have multiple subscriber lists which allows you to have multiple opt-ins. Each opt-in area could go to a separate list if you chose to set it up this way. This is a great way for you to determine which of your opt-ins is the most popular.

As an example you could have a home page opt-in, content upgrade opt-ins on each different blog post, maybe a generic opt-in for blog posts that didn't utilize a content upgrade, a sidebar opt-in for your newsletter, etc. In Mailerlite each of these opt-ins could go to a different subscriber list and even then to a different autoresponder series.

So, as you can see there are great, free options within Mailerlite. And when you need to go beyond the first 1,000 subscribers Mailerlite's pricing tiers are much more generous than the other options. See the chart below to compare the pricing tiers.

There is a pay as you go option as well. For example: $30 for 5k emails, $55 for 10k, $200 for 50k, $400 for 150k, and $665 for 250k.

As you make your decision you'll want to keep in mind what the pricing tiers are. You don't want to choose a free service and then be forced to pay an exorbitant rate as soon as you move to their paid plan. I've listed the first five pricing tiers for each of the services below.

Conclusion

Overall, considering both the free options available and the pricing tiers I chose to go with Mailerlite for my business and that is the options I would recommend for any entrepreneur that is just starting out and needs an affordable options with the maximum of features.
